THE OLD SLAVE MART MUSEUM The Old Slave Mart Museum is the first African-American Museum.  It is often staffed by individuals who can trace their ancestry to Charleston slaves. This historic building includes a series on informative posters, a small collection of artifacts, and an interview with a former slave.

GIBBES MUSEUM OF ART AND ARTS DISTRICT Opened in 1905 and with more than 10,000 works of fine art, the Gibbes Museum of Art features American artwork with ties to Charleston history. Renovated and reopened in 2016, the new Gibbes Museum boasts changing Special Exhibits on the 3rd floor.
