The proceeds collected for the EVS Fun Run/Walk benefit The Think Aorta Foundation which is a global campaign focused on the problem of misdiagnosis and delay in acute Aortic Dissection. It was created and is led by Aortic Dissection Awareness UK & Ireland. Think Aorta provides free, accredited learning resources for Emergency Medicine and Radiology teams and for First Responders, improving their ability to spot a time-critical, life-threatening Aortic Dissection and take appropriate action. Think Aorta is saving lives around the world and is endorsed by the leading medical professional bodies in all of the countries where we are active.
The walking/running path will be along the historic Boathouse Row located on the east bank of the Schuykill River. It is truly a spectacular route! Please come and participate in this informal run/walk with your EVS colleagues!
There will be an open-top bus to transport you to the start.

Visit independence hall and see the liberty bell
Located just 10 minutes away from the Loews Hotel
During the blistering summer of 1776, 56 delegates gathered at the Pennsylvania State House and pledged their “lives, their fortune and their sacred honor” in the pursuit of independence.
Now known as Independence Hall, the UNESCO World Heritage Site is where the Declaration of Independence was signed, finalizing the colonies’ break with England.
Eleven years later, representatives from 12 states gathered once again at the State House to shape the U.S. Constitution, finally creating one unified nation.
A national treasure, Independence Hall is one of only 24 World Heritage sites in the nation, placing it in the company of the Statue of Liberty and Yellowstone National Park.
Liberty Bell Center
It doesn’t make a sound, but the Liberty Bell’s message rings loud and clear: “Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof.”
This inscription on the cracked but mighty bell is one reason it has been adopted by abolitionists, suffragists and other freedom-seekers.

The African American Museum in Philadelphia
Founded in 1976, The African American Museum in Philadelphia is the first institution built by a major U.S. city to preserve, interpret and exhibit the heritage and culture of African Americans. The museum takes a fresh, bold look at the roles of African Americans in the founding of the nation through the core exhibit Audacious Freedom. Visiting exhibitions and frequent programs reveal the history, stories and cultures of those of African descent throughout the African diaspora.

Visit the Mütter Museum
Disturbingly informed.
Built in 1863, in Philadelphia, the Mütter Museum is described by many as the finest collection and display of medical specimens in the United States as well as home of the Philadelphia College of Physicians. The collection contains unique preserved pathological specimens, osteological specimens, models, medical instruments spanning centuries, as well as other collections. In addition to the beautiful museum, the outstanding attached gardens contain a pharmacopeia of medical herbs and other plants.
Before his incredible collection became the basis of his namesake museum, Dr. Thomas Dent Mütter made his name as a brilliant, compassionate and outspoken mid-19th century doctor who specialized in radical reconstructive surgery on the severely deformed in a time before anesthesia, so all of his patients were awake during his complex procedures. Though he died young, his influence as a surgeon and a professor are still seen in modern medicine today, and his surgeries and humanist, patient-centric philosophies were so ahead of his time that they are still being used today.
